Therapy and Consultation

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your fees?

The investment is $150 per session, automatically billed to your credit card, HSA, or FSA on file after each appointment. This flat rate applies to all sessions, ensuring transparent pricing. While I don't work directly with insurance companies, we can provide detailed receipts for those seeking out-of-network reimbursement. Our goal is to offer high-quality care with straightforward pricing.

Will my session be in-person or virtual?

Most of my clients prefer to be virtual due to scheduling and other limitations. Some are surprised with the connection and rapport that we are able to foster virtually. I do offer office visits located off the 101 Freeway in North Scottsdale for those that prefer this setting.

Can I be located in a state other than Arizona?

At this time, my clients can be located anywhere in the state of Arizona due to licensure requirements. Over the next year it is possible that this service area will begin to expand.

Is therapy right for me?

If you're asking this question, you're not alone. Many of my clients wonder if therapy can truly help, especially if they feel they already know what they need to do or have tried therapy before. What sets our work apart is its ability to go beyond surface-level insights. Together, we'll uncover the root causes of your challenges and create real, lasting change. My approach is designed to help you not just understand your patterns, but actually transform them, leading to significant improvements in how you feel and function in both your personal and professional life. Whether you're facing new challenges or long-standing issues, therapy can provide the support and strategies you need to feel better and thrive. If you still have questions or aren’t sure, schedule a free consultation to meet me directly!

What can I expect from a free consultation?

A free consultation is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and determine if we're a good fit for working together. Here's what you can expect:

1. Understanding Your Needs: I'll ask what prompted you to seek therapy at this time. This helps me understand your current situation and immediate concerns.
2. Exploring Your Goals: We'll discuss what areas of your life you'd like to improve and what you hope to achieve through therapy.
3. Answering Your Questions: You'll have the chance to ask any questions about my background, approach, and practice. This is your opportunity to get to know me and see if you feel comfortable with my style.
4. Assessing Fit: Based on what you share, I'll provide my professional opinion on whether I believe I can effectively help you with your specific needs.
5. Discussing Logistics: If it seems we're a good match, we can talk about practical details like scheduling, fees, and what to expect in our first full session.
6. Providing Alternatives: If I believe another therapist or resource might be better suited to your needs, I'll provide that information. My goal is to ensure you get the best possible care, even if that's not with me.
7. Confidentiality: Everything discussed in the consultation is confidential, just as it would be in a regular therapy session.

I always recommend scheduling a consultation for these reasons alone – it's a valuable opportunity to get professional guidance on finding the right fit for your therapy journey, whether that's with me or another qualified professional. Your well-being is the priority, and this initial conversation is an important step in ensuring you get the support you need. Ready to chat?

Can you give me a diagnosis?

Understanding your mental health is an important part of the therapeutic process. Here's what you should know about diagnoses in our work together:

1. Common Diagnoses: Many of my clients have been diagnosed with conditions such as ADHD, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, or issues related to substance use. These diagnoses can help us understand patterns and guide treatment.

2. Diagnostic Capability: As a qualified mental health professional, I am able to provide diagnoses when appropriate. This ability is an integral part of our therapeutic work, allowing us to tailor our approach to your specific needs.

3. Client-Centered Approach: While diagnoses can be helpful, they don't define you. Our focus is on your unique experiences, strengths, and challenges, rather than just a label.

4. Flexibility in Diagnosis: Because I don't work directly with insurance companies, I'm not required to provide a diagnosis for every client. This gives us more flexibility in how we approach your mental health.

5. Your Choice: You have the option to decline a formal diagnosis if you prefer. We can still work effectively together without one, focusing on your symptoms and experiences rather than a specific diagnostic category.

6. Superbills and Diagnoses: If you plan to submit superbills to your insurance for potential reimbursement, please note that these typically require a diagnosis. We can discuss this further if it applies to your situation.

7. Benefits of Diagnosis: When used appropriately, a diagnosis can help in several ways:
  • Providing a framework for understanding your experiences
  • Guiding treatment planning and therapeutic approaches
  • Potentially accessing certain resources or accommodations, if needed

8. Beyond the Diagnosis: Regardless of whether we use a formal diagnosis, our work together will be comprehensive, addressing not just symptoms but the whole of your life experiences and goals.

Remember, the decision to receive or use a diagnosis is a personal one, and we'll approach it in whatever way feels most comfortable and beneficial for you. Our primary goal is your well-being and growth, with or without formal labels.

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is an evidence-based approach that helps individuals process and overcome traumatic experiences, negative beliefs, and emotional distress. It works by activating the brain's natural healing processes through bilateral stimulation, typically guided eye movements, while focusing on distressing memories. This dual attention allows the brain to reprocess traumatic material more effectively, reducing emotional distress and forming healthier associations. EMDR can help clients process trauma more efficiently than traditional talk therapy alone, develop more adaptive beliefs, and improve overall emotional well-being. As an EMDR-certified therapist, I've undergone extensive training and supervision to ensure safe and effective delivery of this powerful therapeutic approach. It's crucial to work with a well-trained EMDR practitioner or someone under proper consultation to maximize the therapy's benefits. In addition to providing EMDR therapy, I'm also an EMDR consultant-in-training, offering consultation services to other EMDR therapists to support their professional development. If you're considering EMDR therapy or have questions about the process, I'm here to help you explore whether it might be the right approach for achieving your therapeutic goals.
